Tia Now Teaches the Alberta Curriculum, Grades 5 to 12

Tia now covers Mathematics, English Language Arts and Science using Alberta's curriculum as published by Alberta Education. All three subjects are aligned at every grade from 5 through 12.

Grades 5 through 9 were already in Tia. This release adds the senior high courses Alberta students take.

This release adds Alberta's senior high courses

The expanded Alberta Curriculum coverage now runs continuously from Grade 5 through Grade 12.

Grades 5 and 6 follow Alberta's new curriculum. Grades 7 through 9 follow the provincial Programs of Study. Grades 10 through 12 follow the academic senior high courses Alberta Education assigns to each grade.

This matters because Alberta's senior high courses are where the stakes rise. Grade 12 courses can lead to diploma examinations, and course outcomes become increasingly specific.

A Mathematics 20-1 student working on factoring polynomial expressions receives support connected to the course outcome. A Biology 30 student studying genetics receives help pitched to the Alberta Education outcome for that course. A Grade 6 student working on fractions receives the same curriculum connection at their grade.

The provincial outcome stays fixed. Tia changes the explanation, pace and example to help the student reach it.

2,264 outcomes and curriculum elements checked word for word

Tia carries 2,264 Alberta outcomes and curriculum elements:

• 836 for Grades 5 through 9
• 1,428 for the senior high courses

The content was taken directly from Alberta Education's published curriculum and Programs of Study on LearnAlberta. Each outcome and element was checked word for word before going live.

Tia preserves Alberta Education's wording and, where Alberta publishes them, its outcome codes. A Biology 20 outcome such as 20-A1.1k remains attached to its provincial code.

Mathematical notation is also carried as Alberta publishes it. Fractions, powers, roots and other mathematical forms are preserved rather than flattened into plain text.

Grades 5 through 9 are taught grade by grade

Students in Grades 5 through 9 receive support tied to the outcome for their exact grade.

A Grade 6 student working on fractions gets help pitched to the Grade 6 outcome. Tia can use a visual model, slow down the explanation or revisit an earlier idea, then return to the Alberta expectation.

The same approach applies in English Language Arts and Science. The student receives a personalised route while the provincial outcome remains the destination.
